Housing Break and Closing Information

Building and Break Procedures

General Resident Guidelines

If you will be gone for more than a few days or if your building is scheduled to be closed during the break, please follow these steps:

  • Turn heat ON and set it to low or 65 degrees in apartments (winter months).
  • Clean your room/apartment and remove items from shared suite bathrooms.
  • Take all trash to the dumpster.
  • Remove all perishable food from your refrigerator.
    • Small refrigerators: Unplug and prop doors open.
  • Unplug all personal appliances and electronics.
  • Pack all essential items you may need, especially if you are unable to return as planned. This includes:
    • Medicines
    • Study materials
    • Instruments
    • Valuables
  • Remove all plants and fish.
  • For the safety and security of all residents:
    • Staff will check all residence hall rooms before Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring breaks.

Safety Inspections

  • Safety inspections will occur in:
    • Residence Halls
    • Sorority Housing
    • Sigma Nu Housing
  • Inspections are generally conducted before breaks to ensure safety compliance.

Dining Services Information

Dining Dollars

  • Dining Dollars are available during Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring breaks at select dining venues.
  • Meal plans and meal trades are not available during break periods.

Meal Service Schedule

Fall Break

  • Last Meal & Meal Trade: Dinner on the last day of classes before Thanksgiving Holiday (Friday).
  • First Meal & Meal Trade: Breakfast on the first day of classes after Thanksgiving Holiday (Monday).

Winter Break

  • Last Meal & Meal Trade: Dinner on the last day of scheduled finals (Thursday).
  • First Meal & Meal Trade: Breakfast on the Friday before the first day of Spring Term classes (Friday).

Spring Break

  • Last Meal & Meal Trade: Dinner on the last day of classes before Spring Break begins (Friday).
  • First Meal & Meal Trade: Breakfast on the first day of classes after Spring Break (Monday).

Spring Closing in May

  • Last Meal & Meal Trade for Spring Semester: Dinner on the last day of scheduled finals (Thursday).
  • Dining Dollars Expiration: After Dinner on the last day of scheduled finals (Thursday). Unused Dining Dollars will be forfeited.

Campus Mail Reminder

  • Before Break/Check-Out:
    • Pick up all packages and empty your mailbox.
  • If Not Returning Until Spring Term:
    • Consider temporarily forwarding your mail through the USPS website.
  • Tip: Update your default mailing address on shopping accounts to avoid accidentally sending packages to campus during your absence.
